".....Keep in mind that this is the first Sonicare toothbrush I've used so no prior reference point here. But this is the best toothbrush I've ever used, and by a long shot! My dentist had been recommending Sonicare to me for the last couple of years, yet I resisted, mostly because my Braun Oral B 3-d toothbrush was still working fine. But when my daughter's Oral B brush's battery finally died I decided to get a Sonicare for her. This brush wasn't available online or in stores at the time, but I found it on Ebay. I decided on this model because for one thing it uses a lithium-ion rechargeable battery instead of the ni-cad batteries used in other Sonicare models. When it arrived I decided to try the brush myself and WOW, did it ever tickle! You get used to that sensation within a few brushings. The brush action is lightning fast, no comparison with the Oral B, and my mouth and teeth feel so much cleaner. It literally feels like a visit to the dentist twice a day (without the vacuum hanging out of the corner of my mouth). I can't emphasize enough that comparing this brush to the Oral B is like comparing a $100,000 sports car to a '72 Pinto, it's that good. I've written very few reviews in my life, but just had to let the public know about this terrific new product. Buy it!  ....."

".....The basic Sonicare is excellent. It cleans better overall than the original design (particularly the back molars). Also, the handle is lighter, and the charger compact.

I would not pay more (let alone twice) for any of the "advanced" versions. They clean in exactly the same way as the basic model (same brush, motor, charger), but have options that are largely useless.

About the options: (a) For a softer mode, a manual brush with extra-soft bristles (like the Nimbus) is more effective and gentler on the gums, (b) for a "deeper" mode (just more time), press the button twice instead, and (c) the UV system to "sanitize" the head by killing bacteria is useless, and provides no real health benefit compared to rinsing the brush. ....."
